SOUL IN YOUR VOICE

My voice over career began nearly 20 years ago when, as a young actor working in theater, commercials, film and televison, I was cast to voice my first video game. I found it to be a thrilling experience. Voice-over work is my favorite type of performance and I have had the priveledge of working on a lot of fun projects for many great clients over the years.
In the realm of voice, I have worked on everything from corporate to commercial, ADR, ELT, dubbing, syncing, animation, radio plays, audiobooks, narration, video games, and more. In short, if it needed a voice, I’ve done it. On this page you’ll find a massive archive of (over 60) VO samples for your consideration and enjoyment. I have included paid, professional work and other stuff just for fun.

AUDIOBOOKS

Audiobook VO is a niche within voice work. It requires patience and practice to deliver vast amounts of text with consistency. Additionally, there are often many characters to voice in an audiobook, each requiring subtle adjustments. Audiobooks are a little harder but more rewarding because of the finished product.

COMMERCIALS

Commercial work has changed over the years. Long gone are the days of “hard-sell” announcer style commercial voices. Today, clients are generally looking for very personable, likeable and natural deliveries. These can be very difficult to pull off overall because it requires a sparkle of life within a contained vocal profile.

VIDEO GAMES

Video game VO has evolved dramatically over the years. Whereas, in the past, character voices were something of an afterthought, it has become as integral a creative element of the game as any other. There are now even awards for the voice actors.

CORPORATE

Corporate VO is “bread and butter” work. I’ve done msaany corporate voice jobs that usually come in the form of internal, promotional, instructional, or other such videos. The work can be challenging because you want to bring life to text that sometimes can be technically dry while at the same time, making the client happy. Here are a few samples where the client was happy. (I assume they were happy because they paid me).

ANNOUNCING

Announcers come in many shapes and there are lot of expectations around how an announcer should sound based on long-standing conventions. However, the modern approach is to keep it light and personable. Most clients are moving away from the strong “movie-trailer” voice and into a more friendly and casual, yet informed vocal style.

NARRATION

DOCUMENTARY

Narration and documentary work is interesting because, essentially, the narrator is driving the story and becomes the trusted “friend” of the audience. The VO artist has a responsibility to realize the vision of the piece and compliment it.

ANIMATION

Animation is one of my favorite things to do in voice. I enjoy the variety and drastic departures from type that it allows for in performance. I have many samples here that either represent an emulation (some might say, “omage”) of an existing, beloved cartoon character and, some are just characters of my own creation. Zowie!

IMPRESSIONS

You probably won’t be fooled that these impressions are the real thing but they capture the character, rhythm, and vocal quality of these famous personas. Perhaps it’s best to think of these as “a’la” – as in, voice a’la Sean Connery or even “esque”, i.e. Trump-esque.
Here are a few VO samples based on some of the world’s most iconic figures/voices.

ACCENTS / DIALECTS

North American accents are easiest for me to isolate and replicate than others because I grew up with them. There are many, many more accents and dialects in North America than most people (inside or out of America) know.

ACCENTS / DIALECTS

Having lived in the United Kingdom for over a decade and being a British citizen myself, I have come to identify and am working to master the many the dialects of England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales. Here are a few samples of my UK accents.

ACCENTS / DIALECTS

Accents are tricky because you want to be subtle but accurate. The key to doing accents well is in knowing the dialect. This is difficult to master until you spend real time in the place and/or with the people from the region.

ACCENTS / DIALECTS

International meaning all the accents which don’t fall into the North American, United Kingdom or European categories. For now you will find my general Australian, Russian and South African accents here for your consideration.
